Gardening with Snakes. i was

Gardening with Snakes. i was sifting compost this evening and ended up sifting another dekay's snake. this one was quite a bit larger than the one i saw last month - about 12 inches long and about as thick as my finger.

i released it into the raised bed, expecting that would confine it long enough for me to take pictures. but the snake promptly burrowed into the mulch - much like earthworms do. oh well, hopefully it will take care of any slugs / snails that have discovered the bed.

I was in my backyard with my dog and she happend to caught a big SNAKE!I was scared so i told my brother to get a shovel! So i could kill it because it was trying to attact my dog!And im in Spring Tx. So that was very odd! Im looking to find out what kind of snake it could be since i just moved in to this area im not sure of what kind of snakes there are!
The snake was brown with black spots and had a grey stripe down its back! So if you would be willing to help me i would be very happy!

Sincerly,
Kay
